Nylon vs Bronze Bushings for Textile Machines_ And How to Find Reliable Textile Machine Bushings Manufacturers in China_
Hey everyone, I’m new to managing the old textile machines in our family workshop. The power transmission bushings on our looms keep failing. I’m stuck choosing between nylon and bronze materials, and honestly, I have no idea where to even find a trustworthy supplier in China. Any veterans here who can shed some light?

Been there, done that. Stop the machine first to prevent further damage. This is a classic dilemma. Let me break it down from my 20 years in the mill.
For your high-speed rapier loom, the choice isn’t just about price. It’s about load, speed, and lubrication.
Bronze Bushings (usually tin bronze):
Pros: Excellent wear resistance, handles heavy and impact loads well. Good heat dissipation. Traditionally the go-to for critical, high-load spots.
Cons: Requires good lubrication. Can be noisy. More expensive. Heavier.
My take: If your loom is old and the alignment isn’t perfect, or if that specific point gets a lot of shock, bronze might be the safer bet. It’s forgiving.
Nylon Bushings (often PA6 or PA66 with additives):
Pros: Self-lubricating – huge win if lubrication is spotty. Corrosion-proof. Quieter operation. Lighter weight. Generally cheaper.
Cons: Can deform under sustained heavy load (”cold flow”). Heat tolerance is lower than bronze. Wear life can be shorter in very abrasive conditions.
My take: For newer, well-aligned machines or points with moderate load, nylon is fantastic. It cuts maintenance hassle. But for that main drive shaft on an old warrior? I’d be cautious.
Quick Decision Guide:
Choose Bronze if: High/impact load, poor lubrication history, high operating temperature.
Choose Nylon if: Moderate/steady load, you want less maintenance, corrosion is a concern, noise reduction is wanted.
As for finding manufacturers, that’s a minefield. Don’t just search on B2B sites and pick the cheapest. I’ve been burned.

Identify the Failure Mode: Why did the old one fail? Wear? Cracking? Seizing? If it seized from lack of oil, nylon could be a solution.
Check the Machine Manual (if you have it): It often specifies the original material. There’s usually a good reason.
Measure the Operating Environment: Use an infrared thermometer to check the bushing’s operating temperature. If it’s consistently above 80-90°C, lean towards bronze.
Test One Point: Don’t change all bushings at once. Buy one nylon bushing for the failed position, install it, and monitor its wear every two weeks. Compare its life to the old bronze one.
